Microsoft 365 Copilot offers free work chat and paid work-data features, with some advanced agents billed by usage.

Licensing and cost. Eligible Microsoft 365 subscribers can use web-grounded Copilot Chat at no extra charge; some app-context capabilities are included. The paid Copilot add-on adds broader work-data grounding and app integrations, while Microsoft 365 E7 includes Copilot. For US customers, Microsoft lists the enterprise add-on at $30 per user/month with an annual subscription and a qualifying base license. Business add-on pricing starts at $18 per user/month annually for the first year under a promotion through December 31, 2026, versus $21 standard; an eligible plan is required and Business is limited to 300 licensed users per tenant. Microsoft also lists Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50 and Premium with Copilot at $32 per user/month paid yearly. Subscriptions auto-renew; check checkout and renewal terms.

Everyday licensed chat and app assistance are included, but Cowork, Code, Autopilot and other advanced usage can incur separate usage charges. Custom agents used by Copilot Chat users are metered; eligible paid Copilot users can use assistive custom agents without additional charge. Admins should review data permissions and usage-based spending controls before deployment.

Recent releases. Microsoft's October 27 release notes describe a Windows Learning agent for personalized learning, additional web-based Copilot adoption metrics, and web links as Copilot Notebook references. Its October 6 notes also say admins can edit connector query and identity-mapping rules in the Microsoft 365 admin center without a support ticket. Availability depends on licensing and platform; deployments roll out gradually and may not yet reach every user. No action deadline is stated.
